ESTEBAN URBIETA
Esteban Urbieta (Juchitán, Oaxaca, 1973) visual artist heir to the Zapotec Culture. At an early age, he made his first works in a self-taught way, painting on rusty sheets in the body shop and automotive painting of his father. He studied plastic arts at the School of Fine Arts of the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca, and at the Plastic Arts Workshop "Rufino Tamayo," in the City of Oaxaca. He has been one of the outstanding students of the Shinzaburo Takeda teacher. His creative work includes different techniques: Sculpture, Vitreous Enamel works, Graphics and Canvases intervened with some poets from the state of Oaxaca. He has exhibited in Mexico and abroad individually and collectively. His work has deserved multiple recognitions. In 2017, the magazine Mujeres Shaique distinguished him for his artistic contributions to Oaxaca. In 2005, he was selected at the 4th Biennial of Painting and Sculpture of the Southeast, CONACULTA, Chiapas, Mexico. In 2001, he was a fellow of the State Fund for Culture and the Arts, Oaxaca, Mexico. In 1999, he was selected in the 1st Biennial of Painting and Engraving Paul Gauguin, Autonomous University of Guerrero, Mexico. Coordinates the project "Giants of color”, together with the Suke Association, for the benefit of children affected by the earthquake in Mexico, on September 7, 2017; which consists of workshops on Painting, Engraving, Singing, Poetry and Screening of documentaries.
