NOEL VARGAS
Noel Vargas Hernández (Abejones, Oaxaca, 1984) of Zapotec origin, who experiments with the technique of Engraving in the following modalities: relief [Woodcut and Linography], hollow [Burin, Drypoint, Etching, Aquatint and Sugar] and in plane [Lithography], Serigraphy and Monotype]. The Oaxacan artist undertakes his creative process inspired by the surroundings of the Sierra Juárez, in pre-Hispanic symbols and in the traditions of his ancestors. Just as a country man plows the earth, he tills in the wood, and in other supports, leaving furrows of lines, textures and capricious figures. He is proficient in the burin and in the gouges, gliding with ease in the drawing. It transcends the strength of his hand in the graphic expression of abstract landscapes, of thoughts populated with symbols and sounds, bordering an imaginary rainbow. He has taken plastic arts courses in Mexico and the United States, countries where he has exhibited individually and collectively. His work has deserved recognition: in 2016, 3rd place in the Shinzaburo Takeda National Graphic Arts Biennial, in Oaxaca; and, in 2008, it obtained the 1st place in the same Biennial National of Graphic Arts Takeda. In 2011, he established his residence in California, experimenting in the Engraving with the artist Francisco Siqueiros at El Nopal Press, Limited Edition Fine Art Printing, Los Angeles. He has been an instructor at his Art Studio in San Miguel Etla, and in Graphic Workshops in Oaxaca and in the United States.
